| The Germans were the
third largest national group coming to America. William
Penn sent agents to encourage the
Germans to migrate to Pennsylvania. In the 1700's
more than 100,000 settled in Pennsylvannia. Later
these Germans became known as the Pennsylvannia Dutch.
In this number came the Schweitzners,
later changed to Sweitzner. The Sweitzeners moved
to the Northwest Territory. Later the
state of Wisconsin was part of this territory. John Henry Sweitzner homesteaded
160 acres in the State of Wisconsin. He married a
lovely girl, Mary Kagle. They had
been married two months when Mary returned to her
parent's home. The reason Mary return to her
parent's home was that her husband marched off to the
Civil War with the 20th Wisconsin Division.
Their first child, John, was born, in the second year of
this war's devastating cruelty. |
